Out of an abundance of caution, and to let our neighbors recover from this afternoon’s storm, we will not be meeting tonight. We will postpone tonight’s meetings, and look to reschedule as soon as possible.

Today, the City of Cincinnati, through Greater Cincinnati Water Works, activated a hotline for residents and business owners who were impacted by flash flooding on July 17 and July 21 and have not yet made outreach to the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD).

Impacted residents can call (513) 323-7995 to speak with a representative during normal business hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Residents who have already filed a Sewer Back-Up (SBU) Claim with MSD do not need to call again.

“Our City Administration has worked incredibly quickly to activate a program that gets relief into the hands of our residents. Our primary goal here is to cut through as much bureaucracy as possible and get direct assistance out the door,” said Mayor Aftab Pureval.

These funds will supplement MSD’s SBU Program and other available financial relief programs or insurance proceeds available to homeowners or small business owners.

Separately, the City made direct outreach to the approximately 40 properties that may have been impacted from the Duck Creek Floodgate not closing during the July 17 rain event. If you are one of those property owners, please call the phone number provided to you if you have not already done so. The City has a separate process to help these specific properties.

City staff continue to work with urgency to gather necessary information from residents impacted by the flood to complete the intake and review process. We expect residents who qualify will begin to receive checks within the next few weeks.

Dear Hyde Park Neighbors,

The Hyde Park Neighborhood Council sends its heartfelt support to residences and businesses that experienced storm damage on Friday, July 17 and/or Tuesday, July 21.

We are focused in the short term on recovery efforts, but also long-term to advocate with the City for a systemic solution to these flooding issues. In addition to organizing in the immediate aftermath, we are interfacing with City officials on specific requests to ensure resources are directed where they are most needed.  

We are writing today to:

1. Request your participation in a Hyde Park flood survey of residents/businesses; and
2. to share available resources to provide assistance

HYDE PARK FLOOD SURVEY - Please take 3-5 minutes to complete the Hyde Park Flood Survey

We are urgently trying to assess the scope and magnitude of the flooding impact on Hyde Park residents and businesses. The survey will take 3-5 minutes and will provide invaluable data to analyze the locations, nature, and frequency of the storm damage, so we can best advocate for Hyde Park with the City.

RESOURCES - Please see the available resources below for assistance and support

1. Report Possible Sewer Backups to MSD - If you experience or suspect a sewer backup on your property, please report it to the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) as soon as it is discovered. Prompt reporting helps MSD investigate issues and respond as quickly as possible. MSD accepts reports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Residents can report a possible sewer backup by:
   • Calling (513) 352 4900
   • Submitting a report online at msdgc.org/SBU
2. Request a Flood Information Kit - The Red Cross is providing flood kits to assist citizens in the cleanup process. To request a flood cleanup kit:
   • Contact the Red Cross at 800 RED CROSS (800 733 2767)
3. Report Debris Concerns through 311 - If you observe significant debris accumulation, blocked streets, drainage concerns or locations that might require additional attention, please contact 311:
   • Dial 311 within Cincinnati
   • Call (513) 765 1212
   • Submit a service request through the Cincy 311 website or mobile app

In addition to the above state and local resources, the Mayor’s emergency order has the potential to provide federal resources as well. We will share as we learn more so Hyde Park is fully informed.

Much of our neighborhood, as well as Mt. Lookout, Oakley, Madisonville, Pleasant Ridge, and Norwood, and more were hit with devastating flash flooding yesterday evening. Many of neighbors and our neighborhood businesses were hit very hard. As a place to start, you can begin by filing a claim with MSD's Sewer Backup Program. Importantly, you only have 48 hours in which to file a claim, so that MSD can investigate.  You can file a claim online or by phone. Our understanding is that it may be faster to file a claim online right now due to the large number of people affected by the flooding.

Several local Hyde Park businesses along Madison Rd. have been severely affected by yesterday's flooding and are in desperate need of heavy duty paper towels and Clorox wipes. Anything you are willing to spare may be dropped off at Poeme (just south of the square on Michigan Ave.).

The Department of Transportation & Engineering would like to hear from you! We’re working to improve safety and connectivity along Erie Ave from Saybrook Ave to Murray Rd, and along Murray Rd near its intersection with La Crosse Avenue. We want to understand your experience traveling along the corridors. Please complete the community experience survey.

Community responses will contribute to the proposed redesign. Responses will be accepted July 13 – August 14.  This Fall, there will be an in-person opportunity to give feedback and see the proposed design.

The Cincinnati chapter of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) along with the city will host an awards ceremony for the BuildReady Design Competition on September 14th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Hall (1225 Elm St.). The event begins with an introductory mixer, while the ceremony proper begins at 5:45 PM. Admission is free but requires one to RSVP.

The competition itself is still accepting submissions until noon August 14th; while the first Q&A meeting was June 11th, there will be a second Q&A meeting this coming Thursday, July 16th.

The City of Cincinnati's Emergency Communications Center will accept applications until July 31st for its 311Cincy Citizens Academy program. It will consist of four Wednesday evening (6-8 PM) sessions in September (2nd, 9th, 16th, & 23rd) where the 30 accepted applicants will learn about how city customer service (311/city service requests/online service requests) operates and visit its 24/7 call center.
