The Department of Transportation and Engineering (DOTE) has received several complaints about eastbound vehicles on Observatory Ave not yielding to pedestrians in the crosswalk when turning left (north) onto Edwards Rd.
DOTE is considering modifying the traffic signal to include a “left turn on green arrow only” for eastbound vehicles turning left (north) on Edwards.
Adding a “left turn on green arrow only” will eliminate the conflict between pedestrians crossing Edwards in the north crosswalk and vehicles turning left on Edwards. When pedestrians have a “walk” signal for the north crosswalk, eastbound vehicles on Observatory will not be allowed to turn left on Edwards.
Adding this “left turn on green arrow only” will increase wait times for all users at the intersection. Vehicles traveling through the intersection will have a longer red light, vehicles turning north onto Edwards will have a longer wait, and pedestrians will have a longer wait for the “walk” signal. This change will also require the loss of a few parking spots on all legs of the intersection.
Please use the feedback form in the link below to let us know if you prefer the existing traffic signal timing, or the addition of the “left turn on green arrow only.”

Have you walked through the new and improved Hyde Park Square? Over the years, shrubbery and fountain issues had overtaken the square. In an effort to restore the park to a safe and family-friendly place for all, HPNC, private donors, and the Cincinnati Parks Department have collaborated to give the park a new look.
